If you haven’t tried snorkeling, there is no better time to try it out than on your visit to Cape Coral.
Besides being a great water sport where you never leave the surface, snorkeling provides benefits such as increasing lung capacity, providing better joint mobility, burning calories and is a great workout for your legs, core and shoulders.
Fort Myers Beach and the outer islands have several great access points for snorkeling, including Blind Pass. This is shallow water so it is also great for swimming and hanging out on the beach. There are live shells, fish and man-made reef that will entice any snorkeler. The best snorkeling you will find is located in the islands off the shore – Captiva Island and Sanibel. There is also a lighthouse on Sanibel Island.
The Sanibel / Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce keeps a directory on their website of various cruise companies . If you stay at Cape Coral Home Away there is no need to rent a boat though. Our 26 ft. Sweetwater Pontoon boat will you navigate over 400 miles of waterways in the area and get you to the beaches.
Our boat captain knows how to direct you and when you book with us, make sure you ask our property manager – as she is an avid snorkeler.
If you would rather have someone take you out, a company called Sanibel Island Cruise Lines has excursions that will take you out to some of the better snorkeling areas where the water is deeper and known for interesting things to see.
If you have your own gear – great! But if you need to rent gear we’ve listed some good businesses below that you can visit.
